Our History
Prairie Heritage Seeds is a 3rd generational family-owned agricultural company. The company was homesteaded as a family farm in the early 1900s by Alexandre Galarneau and was continued by Alfred & Reine Galarneau. Their sons, Alex and Robert, continued to build the farm and their first grain-cleaning plant in 1987, under the name of Galarneau Farms.
To meet the demands of organics and quality Canadian food, they started to work with other farmers to fill the ever-growing market. Eventually, Alfred & Reine retired from the business and their sons took over. The two brothers built up the business into a successful company, forming PHS Organics Inc. In 2019, there was a reorganization, Alex and Janet Galarneau now own and operate PHS Inc. Alfred and Reine still remain an integral part of the legacy and philosophy of the company.
The agricultural business was a family farm that grew to encompass contracts with growers that still to this day produce quality grain for PHS. We have producers that have been growing for over 20 years and the 2nd and 3rd generations are now continuing that legacy.
Prairie Heritage Seeds is a small business with large capabilities, and our brand has become an icon to informed cooks and artisan bakers alike, not only in Canada, but also in many overseas markets. We strive to ensure a quality food product for any cooks in the kitchen.
Today, Prairie Heritage Seeds has the same commitment and passion: to produce a real difference in our communities by creating employment and offering a reputable place to do business. PHS continues to strive to produce a delicious healthy food through a sustainable and transparent food chain.
The journey continues as the organization continually strives to increase their knowledge about emerging farming practices, logistics, and quality assurance.
